Like yesterday, we took the short train ride from Reggio to Modena. Within 10 minutes walk we arrived at the Enzo Ferrari Museum!
Whether you're into cars or not, the collection of autos is very impressive. But why take my word for it....
I'm sure in the order of most valued Italians if all time, Enzo is certainly considered in the top 3.
Much of Modena is decorated with umbrellas of various colors, which looks cool.
...we moved on to check out the Modena Duomo and tower. Here is the side and front. If you think it looks crooked, your eyesight is 20/20.
UNESCO-listed Romanesque Duomo di San Giminano began in 1099 with the cathedral built by Lanfranco and completed in the 13th century. With carvings and frescos by Wiligelmo and his followers.
The prize of the Duomo is the tomb of Saint Geminiano, known affectionately by the locals as "Saint Gimmy."
Little known fact, Saint Gimmy used to speak about himself in the third person. For example, when he first moved to Modena he'd say to people "Saint Gimmy's new in town." and "Saint Gimmy's got moves!" Sadly, Saint Geminiano's career was cut short when Saint George caused him to slip, fall and injure his back. It was then that Saint Gimmy famously said, "Saint George sidelined Saint Gimmy!"
I'll give you a moment to collect yourselves, then we'll move on to Modena part 2..
Is the short train like the short bus? Perhaps Seinfeld got his idea for Jimmy, from Gimmy? So many questions.
